Two people are stabbed after a fight broke out in the parking lot before the Southern California-UCLA football game. The fight broke out right before the game started between about 40 fans from both teams in the events parking lot. One person was stabbed in the cheek and another was stabbed in the back. Two officers sustained injuries while trying to break up the fight. One officer had a sprained hand and the other had a sprained ankle. 3 people were arrested after the incident. Police say the loyalty for their teams and the tailgating partying and drinking were the reasons for the fighting. Police say that the fans are pretty passionate about their teams.
Okay first of all I know everybody has a favorite team and they are really passionate about that team. I've gone to football games and there is always a little bit of argueing. Words are thrown back and forth between fans of opposite teams. I don't know if I've ever seen anyone get stabbed over a football game though. Yea people party and tailgate and drink. Usually everybody has a great time at a football game. Yea your gonna get remarks from the other teams fans but that normal. I don't think there is any reason to stab somebody over a freakin' football game! Besides, it wasn't even an NFL game it was a college game! Geez! Can't people support their team anymore without the violence?! I'm a Chiefs fan and we hate the Broncos. I have a friend that is a Broncos fan and she doesn't like the Chiefs, but I'm not gonna go stab her just because she heskles me about my team. I heckle her a lot about her team to. It's all in good fun! We still sit there and watch the game and eat our snacks and poke fun at each other. I would never hurt anybody just because they said something negative about my team. That is just taking the game spirit to extremes! Cool it down people it's just a game! Have some nachos and watch the game you weirdos!
Your right. But, out in the public, when others say things, you take it differently. Especially when you have been drinking. I have been to several games and have seen the reactions to my friends when others have said the same thing that I have said. The reactions are different. Not for football, but I always made fun of a really good buddy who was from Hawaii. All in good fun he took it in stride and gave the crap back to me for being from Missouri. Another guy made fun of Hawaii after he had been drinking, and he really didn't know this guy very well, it took three of us to contain him after he had jumped over a coffee table 8 feet away in order to seriously hurt the guy who made fun of him. It is all about the alcohol consumed and the people you are around. Yes, stabbing is very serious and not called for. Especially when you are thinking about it sobber. But, once the alcohol distorts your thinking and you are in the public protecting your beliefs, you believe you are under attack and need to respond in a higher attitude. Especially, if you have no ties to the ones taunting you. People are stupid and that is why you need to be protective in strange enviroments as well as aware of your surroundings. Acohol will distort that. I know from years of experience. I learned a very inportant moto when I was in the service. You are one of the following: You are either the quick or the dead. In a situation like that, you had better be quick and know your surroundings and who you are dealing with. Otherwise, when you turn your back after a quick remark, you could be the dead. You may have a little alcohol in you, but the other may have been drinking for hours. Be careful and enjoy the game.
ReplyDeleteThis is crazy so many times things happen like this but it’s crazy Greg had a friend from Hawaii that’s where I am from! But yea things like this happen out in Hawaii all the time the fans over there are so loyal to University of Hawaii because they have no other teams to go for there is no NFL team. People just don’t think when they are Drunk I have been that guy before and it don’t feel good the next day!
ReplyDeleteRetarded!! I guess I will never understand how just by being a fan of a team that someone justifies in their mind fighting for them. It's a game people!
ReplyDeleteYou are right..it's just a game. But then people sometimes take things so far overboard that someone always gets hurt.
ReplyDeletePerhaps it's because I raised three boys, but I've always been a sports fan; not the "paint my chest" kind...but a fan, none-the-less.
ReplyDeleteTHIS, however...is NOT what being a fan is all about! Sports-rage (as I call it) makes my brain feel as though it will surely explode; it's EVERYWHERE!
I've seen fights break out at T-ball games!!
What kind of a message are parents sending to their children?!!
I can only imagine that behavior like THAT is what causes things like THIS (your article) to happen.
Have mercy.
